We work with a collection of artist-rehabilitated, historic sites to enable artists and writers to pursue their craft in focus. These places offer studio and living accommodations throughout a cross-section of architectural settings typical to 1890s to 1920s in small-towns like Corsicana bridging the American South and West.
PRESERVATION AND PROGRAMMING IN 2021:
BOOKSHOP
Our drive to engage local community and regional audiences with resident work has planted seed for a bookshop in this site two blocks from 100 West. Located on Commerce Street, this 1920s retail space helps represent part of a once-thriving commercial strip owned by shopkeeping families of Corsicana’s Black community.
Renovation will take place throughout the rest of 2020, to be furnished and open in 2021.
WRITERS’ HOUSE
Writers’ House is a 1920s craftsman home, providing a domestic setting for two writers to pursue their craft in close proximity to the downtown community. A third bedroom can accommodate an artist utilizing studio space at additional studios sites like Samuels Building. Two large porches, yard, library and conferencing salon stimulate resident work within this quiet neighborhood. The former garage serves as a workshop. Co-founder Nancy Rebal purchased and preserved this structure in 2020, and will accommodate residents with her husband, essayist David Searcy.
Renovation will take place throughout the rest of 2020, to be furnished and open in 2021.
