100 WEST

February 11, 2022

Founding site for this residency. Constructed as an Odd Fellows Lodge in the 1890s, this unaltered building provides a 2,400 square-foot third-floor artist studio in the original Encampment Hall, a 600 square-foot writing studio in the Encampment Hall’s Anteroom, and a 2,400 square-foot second-floor artist studio in a former meeting hall. The studios and domestic space are furnished with period pieces and artist-made works produced in the first-floor wood shop that define the monastic approach of 100 West.

Since 2012, this site has been preserved and developed into 100 West by founder and director Kyle Hobratschk, who maintains a studio practice in the wood shop while hosting residents upstairs.

WRITERS HOUSE

April 03, 2021
Link to writers House website

The Writers House is now open - a 1912 Arts & Crafts home for 100 West resident alumni and independents to pursue self-directed retreats in close proximity to the Corsicana Residency community and historic downtown. This house is for writers, artists and composers who seek a quiet and productive setting for writing-focused practices.

The carefully restored, 2,300 square-foot, two-story house offers a spread of calm workspaces: a living room, library, baby grand piano room, breakfast room, wrap-around porch, full kitchen, and laundry room with machine washer & dryer. Three bedrooms on the second-floor each include a desk, full-size bed, closet, with two full-bathrooms accessed from the hallway, with central cooling and heating. All bedding, linens and kitchen appliances are provided. Three years of significant restoration and furnishing by co-founding artist Nancy Rebal, writer David Searcy, and Jean Searcy have realized this special place, located in the historic Carriage District (1840s – 1930s), neighboring homes of residency founders and friends, ten blocks from 100 West.

Non-Funded Writers House Retreats are defined separately from Funded 100 West Residencies. Unless otherwise coordinated, retreatants do not participate in Open Studios, Presentations, or annual roster representation. Studio and living accommodations are not shared between the Writers House and 100 West. Occasional social programming is shared by retreatants and residents, while some programmed experiences are arranged specifically for 100 West residents. For questions about the Writers House and expectations, contact Nancy Rebal.
